World Rabies Day: 25 years of a rabies-free Koh Phangan

World Rabies Day is 28 September, and the theme for 2026 is Stronger Together. PACS has been vaccinating Koh Phangan's dogs and cats against rabies for 25 years, and the island is considered rabies-free. Rabies is still present in Thailand and is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but it is 100% preventable.

World Rabies Day falls on 28 September, and the theme for 2026 is Stronger Together.

For 25 years we have been vaccinating Koh Phangan’s dogs and cats against rabies, one animal at a time. It has worked. Thanks to this island’s community, Koh Phangan is considered rabies-free.

Why vaccinating against rabies still matters

Rabies is still present in Thailand, and it is almost always fatal once symptoms appear. It is also 100% preventable.

Every vaccinated dog and cat keeps the island’s animals, families and visitors safe.

Stronger together

We cannot think of a better way to describe the last 25 years. None of it would have been possible without you: our donors, our vets, the businesses and the neighbours.

Help us vaccinate for the next 25 years

In our 25th anniversary month, we are asking for one gift: help us carry on vaccinating the island’s animals to protect the next 25 years.

  • ฿400 vaccinates 1 animal
  • ฿2,000 vaccinates 5 animals
  • ฿4,000 vaccinates 10 animals
